A xylarium is a specialized collection of authenticated wood specimens, akin to a herbarium for plants. It typically consists of relatively small blocks of wood used for identification, research, and educational purposes. The Global Timber Tracking Network (GTTN) promotes the operationalization of innovative tools for species identification and for determining the geographic origin of wood to verify trade claims. The map of the globe with the lists of wood collections is fascinating to view! Each identified wood collection on the map can be selected and a breakdown of the collection shows up. The breakdown lists the collections name and a full description of the collection. Click here to view the map: IAWA Index Xylariorum | Global Timber Tracking Network
