Message from President Mark Duff

Well, summer arrived in full force.  Luckily, I’m in Colorado High Country for the next two months where it gets to a high of 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the afternoons, instead of the 100 degrees (F) in Texas.   There in Central TX where I live, we are now in our third year of exceptional drought, our reservoirs are at record low levels, creeks have dried up and mature established native trees are dying.  Yikes!  Hand watering trees is getting old.

The good news is other IWCS business is moving along well.   The election process for the new President-Elect and the Vice President is on track.  By now most of you would have received your mail-in ballot postcard affixed inside the last issue of World of Wood (to be used only by USA members) and have had an opportunity to mail it in to Lynn Pletcher.   All non-USA members will be e-mailing Lynn your candidate selection, instructions also found in the last issue.  This should make the voting process much less cumbersome.

The organization team for the Gellibrand, AU Annual General Meeting is putting together an incredible, educational, exiting and fun program.  So far, we have at least 8 members from the United States that will be attending.

Our website is now much more user friendly and our new checking and saving bank accounts are easier to manage.  It is my hope that we can get the WoW issues from 1972-2021 posted onto this section of the website as well.  That would make all journals available to our members.

I am also very honored and excited to be able to present John Lyons with the presidential gavel in Australia as he takes over the helm.  We can rest assured that we will be in good hands.   I’m looking forward to seeing many of you in Australia, making new friends and acquaintances, sharing stories, collecting wood and having a blast.   Sign up.   There’s still time.
