My name is Richard Long, # 9978, from Indiana but I retired to Alabama three years ago. I have been a member of IWCS for 7 years. I had my own business for over 25 years selling and installing built-in vacuum systems in homes and businesses, which has given me a lot of experience dealing with the public one on one. I was also an associate member of the Indiana Builders Association for over 15 years where I co-chaired the Home Show and Parade of Homes Committee. I’m currently the VP, Membership Chair and New Member Correspondent of the IWCS. As VP, I’ve developed a PowerPoint for the Society that will be on our new website. It is to help members who are uncomfortable speaking to groups when recruiting for new membership. As a member of the Bylaws Committee, I have written a proposal to update our bylaws. We are making good progress. I have been in charge of sending out the membership packets to all our new members. Furthermore, since shipping is the biggest expense of the Society I, volunteered to cover the cost myself for my two-year term as VP. I designed our 75th Anniversary t-shirts for the Society and sold some at Lake Yale, and will be taking orders for Texas. $5.00 from each shirt goes back to the Society. This is a society and must work together; no one person can do it all.
